I was recently asked to guest write a blog post about self-care for another website. I am sharing what I wrote here & offering some simple suggestions to enhance your life.
Take Quiet Time For Self-Care
One of the best ways to engage in self-care is to slow down & take time to be quiet. Get in a comfortable position & just breathe while listening to the sounds of your own breath. I do this every morning in order to set myself up for a powerfully creative day. We are all “busy” but even taking 15 minutes in the morning to sit quietly with ourselves without distractions can have a big impact in our lives.
Do Personal Development
I listen to or read some form of personal development everyday. Even just 10 minutes of an audiobook or 10 pages of a book can go a long way. Maybe you could even take a brisk walk in the morning & listen to it while you walk. This would help you move your body while you are feeding your mind positivity. For the “busy” person an easy way to do personal development without taking time away from your schedule would be to listen to an audiobook in the car while driving.
Cook For Ourselves
One of the ways I have found most helpful for my own self-care is to cook homemade meals for myself. It doesn’t have to be fancy or complicated. If you are not usually a cook, find a simple recipe online & start there. I truly believe in the power of self-care through cooking. There is something about us cooking for ourselves that tells God & The Universe, we are taking care of ourselves. I believe this simple action can create more space in our lives for additional self-care activities.
Move Our Bodies
Another way to engage in self-care everyday is to move our bodies. Again it doesn’t have to be complicated like training for a marathon or preparing for a bodybuilding competition. It can be as simple as taking our dog for a brisk, 30-minute walk in the morning or doing some Yoga. Moving our bodies in some way everyday is not only engaging in self-care but it is also a great way to relieve stress.
These are just a few suggestions on how to engage in self-care. There are many other ways to take care of ourselves. What are some ways you engage in self-care? I would love to hear from you.
